Lexington Park Lions Club Honors National Military Appreciation Month

Each May, Americans unite to observe National Military Appreciation Month, a time to honor and express deep gratitude to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. The Lexington Park Lions Club is proud to recognize this important month and pay tribute to those who have served—and continue to serve—our nation with courage and dedication.

A Tradition of Tribute
National Military Appreciation Month was officially designated by Congress in 1999, thanks in large part to the efforts of the late Senator John McCain. May was chosen for its many military observances, including Loyalty Day (May 1), VE Day (May 8), Military Spouse Appreciation Day (Friday before Mother’s Day), Armed Forces Day (third Saturday in May), and Memorial Day (last Monday in May).

These dates remind us not only of our military's historical victories, but also of the ongoing sacrifices made by service members and their families.

What It Means to Serve
The Lions Club motto, “We Serve,” echoes the very spirit of our nation’s military. Our club includes members who are veterans, active-duty personnel, and family members of those in service. Their commitment to community and country reflects the values we strive to uphold in all our service projects.

This month is more than a symbolic gesture—it is a heartfelt acknowledgment of the freedoms we enjoy and the cost at which they are secured. It is also a time to reflect on how we, as citizens and as Lions, can support and uplift our military community every day.
