Lexington Park Lions Club Observes Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of mental wellness and support those living with mental health conditions. The Lexington Park Lions Club is proud to stand with our community in promoting awareness, understanding, and compassion.

Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in the United States since 1949. It was established by Mental Health America (then known as the National Association for Mental Health) to raise awareness about mental health conditions, reduce stigma, and advocate for improved mental health services. Over the decades, the movement has grown to include national campaigns, educational programs, and community events that emphasize early intervention, prevention, and the importance of access to care.

This year’s national theme, “Mental Health is Health,” highlights that mental well-being is just as vital as physical health. One in five adults in the U.S. experiences a mental health condition in a given year, yet many individuals still struggle in silence due to stigma or lack of resources. As Lions, our mission to serve includes supporting the whole health of our community—body, mind, and spirit.

The Lexington Park Lions Club encourages everyone to take part in Mental Health Awareness Month by learning more, reaching out to those in need, and advocating for equitable access to mental health services. We will be sharing resources throughout the month and partnering with local organizations to spotlight mental health initiatives in our area.

Let’s work together to create a community where mental health is valued, supported, and openly discussed.
