As we move through the final full week of June, several national observances highlight causes that align closely with the service mission of the Lexington Park Lions Club. From supporting veterans and first responders to protecting vision and caring for our local environment, there are many ways community members can get involved and lend a hand.

June 27 marks National PTSD Awareness Day, a time to increase understanding of post-traumatic stress disorder and recognize the challenges faced by many veterans, first responders, and others affected by trauma. Even small acts of support, a conversation, a check-in, or simply listening, can make a difference for someone who may be struggling.

The same day is also National Sunglasses Day, a reminder that protecting our eyes is important year-round. As Lions, we have a long history of supporting vision health through screenings, eyeglass recycling, and educational efforts. Wearing quality sunglasses that block harmful UV rays is one simple step everyone can take to help protect their eyesight.

On June 28, National Insurance Awareness Day encourages families to review emergency preparedness plans and ensure important coverage information is up to date. Being prepared for unexpected situations helps strengthen both households and communities.

Several month-long and week-long observances continue as well. National Pollinator Week (June 22–28) highlights the importance of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators that support agriculture and healthy ecosystems. Residents can help by planting pollinator-friendly flowers and reducing the use of harmful pesticides. June is also National Safety Month and Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, bringing attention to safe habits, brain health, and support for families affected by memory disorders.

The Lexington Park Lions Club encourages everyone to find a way to serve this week, whether that means supporting a veteran, planting flowers for pollinators, participating in a community project, or volunteering alongside local Lions. Lions Clubs International, one of the world's largest service organizations, works to improve communities through vision care, humanitarian service, youth programs, disaster relief, and other local initiatives under the global motto, "We Serve."

If you are looking for a meaningful way to give back, the Lexington Park Lions Club welcomes new members who want to serve their community, support local causes, and meet others who share a commitment to helping neighbors.
