A Week of Service, Caring and Community

This week, the Lexington Park Lions Club recognizes several opportunities to serve, learn, and look out for our neighbors.

August 19 – World Humanitarian Day recognizes people who give their time and effort to helping others, often in difficult circumstances. It is a good reminder that service can begin close to home with something as simple as helping a neighbor or volunteering for a local cause.

August 19 – National Aviation Day celebrates aviation and encourages young people to take an interest in flight, science, technology, and the many careers connected to aviation. Here in Southern Maryland, aviation has long been an important part of our local community.

August 21 – National Senior Citizens Day gives us an opportunity to recognize the older adults who have spent years strengthening our families, neighborhoods, churches, civic groups, and communities. A phone call, a visit, or helping with a small chore can mean a lot.

Throughout August 1–31, Children’s Eye Health & Safety Month reminds parents and families that good vision plays an important role in a child’s ability to learn and succeed. National Immunization Awareness Month, August 1–31 also encourages families to stay informed about preventive health at every age.

These observances fit closely with the broader mission of Lions Clubs International, one of the world’s largest service organizations, serving communities locally and around the world through vision and eye health programs, youth activities, humanitarian work, disaster relief, and other community needs. Our motto says it simply: “We Serve.”

The Lexington Park Lions Club welcomes new members who want to serve their community, support local causes, and lend a hand where it is needed. Consider volunteering, checking on a senior neighbor, helping a family in need, or joining us for a local service project.
