| The Lexington Park Lions Club is using the week of March 23–29 to highlight several important health observances that remind us how local service can make a real difference in people’s lives. With American Diabetes Alert Day, World Tuberculosis Day, and Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness all taking place this week, Lions are encouraging neighbors to learn more, share helpful resources, and support healthier communities through education and outreach.
On March 24, American Diabetes Alert Day serves as an important reminder about the value of early detection and healthy daily habits. Simple steps such as regular checkups, better nutrition, and active living can help prevent or manage diabetes and improve quality of life for many families. That same day, World Tuberculosis Day calls attention to the ongoing need for public health awareness, prevention, and access to care. While tuberculosis may seem like a distant concern to some, it remains a global health issue that reminds us how connected community well-being truly is.
Later in the week, on March 26, Purple Day shines a light on epilepsy awareness and the importance of understanding, inclusion, and support for those living with seizure disorders. Observances like these give local service organizations a chance to encourage compassion as well as practical action. Whether that means sharing educational information, supporting screenings, or simply helping neighbors feel seen and supported, these efforts strengthen the fabric of the community.
March also includes two month-long observances that fit closely with the service mission of Lions. National Nutrition Month encourages balanced meals and healthier lifestyles, while Save Your Vision Month reminds all of us to schedule routine eye exams and take steps to protect our sight. Vision care has long been one of the defining service areas of Lions Clubs International, one of the world’s largest service organizations, known for improving communities locally and globally through work in vision and eye health, youth support, disaster relief, humanitarian aid, and community service. Guided by the motto “We Serve,” Lions continue to meet needs wherever they are found.
The Lexington Park Lions Club encourages local residents to take part this week by sharing trusted health resources, supporting screenings and awareness efforts, and volunteering where help is needed. Community service often begins with small acts of care that lead to lasting impact for friends, families, and neighbors.
The Lexington Park Lions Club also welcomes new members who want to serve their community, support local causes, and make a difference. For those looking for a meaningful way to give back, the club offers an opportunity to join others who believe in practical service, fellowship, and improving lives right here in our community.
