| The Lexington Park Lions Club is encouraging residents to take a moment this week, May 4–10, to reflect on the power of gratitude, service, and personal responsibility in strengthening our community. With several meaningful national observances taking place, this is an ideal time to recognize those who care for others, give back, and help make Lexington Park a healthier and more connected place to live.
On May 6, National Nurses Day marks the beginning of National Nurses Week (May 6–12), offering an opportunity to thank the dedicated healthcare professionals who provide compassionate care every day. Just two days later, May 8 brings World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, recognizing humanitarian efforts that save lives and support vulnerable communities both locally and around the globe. Closing out the week, May 10—National Clean Up Your Room Day—serves as a simple but meaningful reminder that even small acts of care and organization can contribute to healthier living spaces and clearer minds.
This week also coincides with Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4–8), a time to celebrate the educators who guide and inspire the next generation, and Mental Health Awareness Month throughout May, which calls attention to the importance of emotional well-being, understanding, and support. Together, these observances reflect the many ways individuals contribute to the well-being of others—through professional service, volunteerism, and everyday kindness.
The Lexington Park Lions Club is proud to stand alongside these efforts as part of Lions Clubs International, one of the world’s largest service organizations dedicated to improving communities locally and globally. Guided by the motto “We Serve,” Lions focus on key areas such as vision and eye health, youth development, community service, disaster relief, and humanitarian outreach. These values are reflected in the club’s ongoing work throughout Lexington Park and the surrounding area.
Community members are encouraged to take simple but meaningful actions this week—thank a nurse, show appreciation to a teacher, check in on a neighbor, or participate in a local service effort. These small gestures, when multiplied across a community, create lasting positive impact.
The Lexington Park Lions Club warmly welcomes new members who are interested in giving back, supporting local causes, and making a difference. If you are looking for a way to serve your community while building lasting connections, consider joining the Lions and becoming part of a global tradition of service. |
