| As we move through the week of July 13–19, the Lexington Park Lions Club encourages everyone to look for simple ways to help a neighbor and strengthen our community. Whether it's donating items you no longer need, lending a hand to someone who could use a little help, or simply sharing a kind word, even small actions can have a lasting effect close to home.
Wednesday, July 15 marks National Give Something Away Day, a reminder that generosity comes in many forms. Donating clothing, food, household items, or your time to a local organization can make a real difference for families throughout Southern Maryland. Then on World Emoji Day on Friday, July 17, a friendly message or encouraging note can brighten someone's day more than we sometimes realize. The week wraps up with National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 19, offering a good excuse to spend time with family, friends, and neighbors while enjoying the simple conversations that help build stronger community ties.
Several month-long observances also continue throughout July. Plastic Free July encourages everyone to reduce the use of single-use plastics and help keep our neighborhoods, waterways, and parks clean. National UV Safety Month serves as an important reminder to protect both your skin and your eyesight by wearing sunscreen and UV-blocking sunglasses during outdoor activities. It's also Parks & Recreation Month, a great opportunity to enjoy the many parks and green spaces that make our area a wonderful place to live while helping keep them clean for everyone. Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month continues to raise awareness of the challenges faced by individuals and families living with Alzheimer's disease while supporting education and ongoing research.
These community observances reflect many of the values that guide the work of Lions Clubs International, one of the world's largest service organizations. Through programs focused on vision care, community service, youth, humanitarian assistance, and helping those in need, Lions around the world continue to live the organization's motto, "We Serve."
